Bio-based building products are considered key in our future socio-economic environment, since they are a very relevant nature-based solution (NbS) to climate change. The statement of President von der Leyen (European commission) to turn the construction sector into a carbon sink is critical in this respect: bio-based materials should be used on a larger and more targeted scale in the future. The long-term use of materials is therefore very important since we need to improve the lifespan of renewable materials to increase its carbon sink potential. Hence wood is increasingly considered as a main building material. Service life aspects are critical in relation to the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Traditional treatments to protect against fungal decay and the impact of fire are not always performing adequately and often environmental impact has been an important consideration. The option to enhance wood properties using innovative technologies can be combined with better definition of the expectations and requirements. Besides focusing on combined innovative treatments of the wood matrix, also envelope treatments similar to the use of coatings can be envisaged. This all should lead to an increased use of timber and engineered wood products for green building. This paper mainly focusses on the increased use and high potential of CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) and options to use hardwoods and modified wood (like TMT) in relation to moisture dynamics to come to fit-for-purpose material properties even under more hazardous circumstances.

<p>Kendaran transportasi dituntut dengan spesifikasi produk yang ringan, kuat, dan ramah terhadap lingkungan, sehingga dapat mengurangi konsumsi energi dan emisi CO<sub>2</sub>. Inovasi pada konstruksi sambungan tanpa proses permesinan menjadi terobosan baru dalam proses penyambungan beda material seperti aluminium-komposit. Material adherend komposit digunakan jenis penguat serat alam cocofiber yang memiliki sifat ramah lingkungan dan material aluminium memiliki sifat tahan korosi yang baik dan bobot ringan, sehingga cocok untuk digunakan pada panel dinding transportasi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan perekat campuran sikahyflex (SF) - epoksi (EP) terhadap kekuatan tarik geser pada sambungan material aluminium 5083–komposit cocofiber. Selain itu, penelitian ini sebagai inovasi baru dan pengembangan penggunaan material perekat campuran dan material adherend yang tahan korosi dan ramah lingkungan dengan penggunaan komposit serat alam cocofiber. Manfaat penelitian ini secara langsung dapat meningkatkan penggunaan dan nilai ekonomis cocofiber yang murah. Selain itu, dapat menghasilkan material maju yang kuat, murah, ringan, dan tahan terhadap lingkungan. Material perekat menggunakan variasi perekat campuran 10% SF : 90% EP, 20% SF : 80% EP, 30% SF : 70% EP, dan 40% SF : 60% EP dengan ketebalan perekat 0,2 mm. Material adherend menggunakan aluminium 5083 dan komposit cocofiber dengan perlakuan kekasaran sandpapering grade #60, #80, dan #150. Komposit cocofiber dibuat mengacu pada standar ASTM D790 dan sambungan SLJ mengacu pada standar ASTM D1002. Hasil pengujian tarik geser pada SLJ terjadi peningkatan dengan penambahan perekat sikahyflex dan perlakuan kekasaran sandpapering grade #150 . Kekuatan tarik geser tertinggi pada variasi 40% SF : 60% EP sebesar 2,42 MPa. Peningkatan grade sandpapering menurunkan surface roughness yang membentuk pola irregularities pada permukaan adherend, sehingga meningkatakan mechanical interlocking adherend dengan perekat campuran. Mode kegagalan terjadi adhesive dan thin layer cohesive failure mode. Pengamatan scanning electron microscope menunjukkan terjadinya void menyebabkan cracking adhesive dan terlepasnya fiber yang menempel pada perekat campuran.</p>

The utilization of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) in construction has surged for its sustainable nature and structural efficiency. However, existing research predominantly focuses on CLT production using softwood species, neglecting the potential of utilizing hardwoods. This study investigated rolling shear strength (frs) and stiffness (Grs) 3-layer CLT elements made from Pequiá ("Caryocar villosum"). Experimental shear (vertical and inclined) and bending tests were conducted on different samples of specimens. Complementing the experimental work, numerical simulations using ABAQUS software were employed. Results indicated similar average resistances (frs) across different tests. The higher average stiffness (Grs) was observed in vertical shear compared to inclined shear tests. The vertical shear test was deemed more suitable for determining stiffness. Furthermore, the panel’s average stiffness was found to be greater than the beam’s average stiffness. An analytical equation was developed for the three-layer panel, and it was effective in estimating the rolling shear stiffness from bending tests. Additionally, numerical modeling successfully identified the regions of highest stress concentration, where ruptures occurred in the samples tested experimentally. These ruptures mainly occurred due to the concentration of shear stresses in the central layer of the CLT samples, with the contribution of normal compression and tensile stresses.
