Purpose of the study: Language is a productive communication tool for teachers to interact with learners. The use of non-verbal Language in speaking becomes strong support when the speech event takes place. This study aims to determine the elements of kinesics and politeness of the Language of the instructor in learning. Methodology: The method used in this study uses descriptive methods. The subjects involved in the research were one lecturer in Indonesian language courses andMahasaraswati university students who were taking Indonesian language courses. The study was conducted in 6 different classes for three meetings. Main Findings: The results showed that non-verbal Language is inherent and contributes to the application of the instructor’s politeness principle in learning. Utilization of kinesics in the politeness of Language perfects a speech that is based on the politeness of Language so that the care of speech harmony can be sustained and to the success in maintaining the face of the speech partner especially emotional closeness between learners and instructors. Application of this study: Learning includes embedded values and imprinted into a role model for learners. The attitude that is no less important and inherent in the instructor’s self is the kinesic attraction that causes the learner’s pleasure and comfort when learning takes place. Novelty/Originality of this study: Research in Indonesian has not yet led to politeness in Language. The utilization of non-verbal Language in speaking becomes strong support when the speech event takes place, this is because Language is the main communication tool for interaction in learning.

The body language of an educator during a class can affect student’s level of interest and concentration. As an attempt to assist educators to improve their body language and speaking characteristics, a pilot body language analysis system that assesses the body language of educators was developed. The proposed application makes use of specific biometric features for determining body language quality during class delivery. The aim of the current study is to examine whether the proposed application can contribute to improving the teachers’ body language, whether the application can provide satisfactory feedback related to the teachers’ body language, and whether the use of the application in real classroom conditions is acceptable. As part of this effort the pilot application has been assessed by teachers of primary, secondary and university education. The experimental investigation involved two phases. In the first phase participants delivered a short lecture that was evaluated using the automated body language analysis application. After the lecture participants were informed about the operation of the application and they were presented with the feedback generated by the body language analysis. During the second phase participants delivered a second short lecture. By comparing the body language quality between the two phases, conclusions related to the impact of the application in improving body language were derived. Experimental results demonstrate that the application provides satisfactory feedback, it is acceptable to use the application in real class conditions, and the feedback provided can be used for self-assessment, reflection and improvement regarding educator’s body language.

Benjamin Zephaniah’s dub poetry and its appeal to children: an ecocritical reading

Dub poetry is a form of performance poetry that originated with Black poets in Jamaica, Britain, and Canada. It is accompanied by rhythmical accentuation and gesticulation while performing in front of the audience. This study analyses the children’s dub poetry of the contemporary Black British poet Benjamin Zephaniah to highlight the unique characteristics that make his poetry more appealing to children. This is accomplished through an ecocritical reading of his early children’s poems, which highlight his biocentric attitude and revolutionary stance against any form of anthropocentrism. The study demonstrates that Zephaniah is an eco-writer who has an effective method of engaging children with his poetry in both its forms, oral and printed, through his performative techniques, rhetorical strategies, humorous style, and serious cosmopolitan topics in the belief that poetry is political and poets should be activists.
