Background: Body image is an important factor in women's lives. Objectives: The purpose of the current study was to explore the association among body image, perceived physical fitness and its subscales, physical activity, body mass index and age in women. Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on a sample of 82 women from University of Tabriz staff and masters. Participants were selected through convenience sampling. Individual characteristics, physical activity rate, body image and perceived physical fitness questionnaires were completed. Data were analyzed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Pearson's correlation coefficient and regression. Results:The results of the study indicated a significant linear association of body image with body mass index (r = 0.769, P = 0.0001), body composition (r = 0.587, P = 0.0001), and aerobic endurance (r = -0.229, P = 0.038). In addition, there was no significant linear relationship between physical activity and other variables, except for flexibility (r = 0.258, P = 0.019) and age (r = 0.418, P = 0.0001). Regression analysis showed that physical self-perception, aerobic endurance, body composition, muscular strength, flexibility, and body mass index could predict 64% of the variance of body image. Conclusions: Physical self-perception and its factors along with body mass index are important to build up body image. Some interpretations and limitations about physical activity motives and measurements were also cited.

Objective: Body image dissatisfaction (BID) in school-age children is positively associated with weight status in cross-sectional studies; however, it is uncertain whether BID is a risk factor for the development of adiposity over time. The aim of the present study was to examine the association of BID with changes in BMI in school-age children. Design: Longitudinal study. At recruitment, children were asked to indicate the silhouette that most closely represented their current and desired body shapes using child-adapted Stunkard scales. Baseline BID was calculated as the difference of current minus desired body image. Height and weight were measured at recruitment and then annually for a median of 2·5 years. Sex-specific BMI-for-age curves were estimated by levels of baseline BID, using mixed-effects models with restricted cubic splines. Setting: Public primary schools in Bogotá, Colombia. Subjects: Six hundred and twenty-nine children aged 5-12 years. Results: In multivariable analyses, thin boys who desired to be thinner gained an estimated 5·8 kg/m 2 more BMI from age 6 to 14 years than boys without BID (P = 0·0004). Heavy boys who desired to be heavier or thinner gained significantly more BMI than boys without BID (P = 0·003 and P = 0·007, respectively). Thin girls who desired to be heavier or thinner gained significantly less BMI than girls without BID (P = 0·0008 and P = 0·05, respectively), whereas heavy girls who desired to be heavier gained an estimated 4·8 kg/m 2 less BMI than girls without BID (P = 0·0006). BID was not related to BMI change in normal-weight children. Conclusions: BID is associated with BMI trajectories of school-age children in a sex-and weight-specific manner.

Attempts at improving the efficiency of training methods in order to achieve sport mastery mainly consist in introducing changes in two types of training, i.e. technical and motor training. In the majority of sports, as far as motor skills are concerned, the speed of performing particular movements by a player has an enormous impact on a sport result. The process of speed formation has become one of the basic elements of sport training.Material and methods. Our study constitutes a comparison of the speed of moving of judo practitioners and handball players in the following two situations: running in a straight line and running with a change of direction (in a broken line). During the first trial, the subjects covered a distance of 30 meters in a straight line, while in the second trial the distance was also 30 meters measured in a straight line, but due to changes of direction the entire covered distance totalled 42 metres. The evaluation of the movement speed was supplemented by an analysis of differences between judo practitioners and handball players. The research material constituted results of examinations of 16 handball players of the First League club WKS Śląsk Wrocław and 14 judo practitioners (who had at least First Sporting Class) of the clubs KS AZS-AWF Wrocław and Gwardia Wrocław.Results. Judo practitioners in the trial of running at a distance of 30 meters in a straight line reached on average 4.33 seconds, while handball players 4.36 seconds. In the trial of running in a broken line handball players had better times, i.e. 11.31 seconds on average, while judo practitioners reached the time of 12.37 seconds. The difference between the obtained times in the trial of running in a broken line was statistically significant -in favour of handball players.Conclusions. The results of running in a straight line do not differentiate handball players and judo practitioners. On the other hand, in the trial of running in a broken line handball players had much better results which significantly statistically differentiated both of the groups of athletes.
