Múltiples estudios han abordado la insatisfacción corporal en los últimos años por su relevante relación con los trastornos dismórficos corporales y de la alimentación. Sin embargo, falta investigación sobre la insatisfacción corporal en personas con discapacidad intelectual. El estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar el nivel de insatisfacción con la imagen corporal en personas con discapacidad intelectual leve y moderada. La investigación cualitativa se aplicó en dos momentos diferentes (estudios 1 y 2). La primera entrevista (estudio 1) estuvo compuesta por 32 preguntas semiestructuradas y se aplicó a 26 participantes (16 mujeres y 10 hombres) quienes respondieron si se sentían cómodos o incómodos con la apariencia de su cuerpo. Se realizó una segunda sesión (estudio 2) con los siete participantes (5 hombres y 2 mujeres) que manifestaron insatisfacción corporal en el estudio 1. La segunda entrevista estaba compuesta por 24 preguntas centradas en los aspectos conductuales relacionados con dicha insatisfacción. Se identificaron seis temas relacionados con: imagen corporal, ambiente, medios de comunicación en el estudio 1; y dieta, conductas de verificación y actividad física en el estudio 2. En general, se encontró que los participantes tenían una identidad corporal establecida y aceptada en el estudio 1. sin embargo, en el estudio 2, la mayoría querían cambiar la forma de su cuerpo para volverse “más delgados” o “más musculosos” bajo el prisma del Modelo de Influencia Tripartita.

In addition, several studies suggest a “significant relationship between autistic traits and indices of negative body image” ( Longhurst, 2023 , 9). Recent research has drawn attention to the prevalence of self-reported autism within online communities of involuntary celibates (incels). These studies suggest that some individuals with autism may be particularly vulnerable to the impact of incel forums and the hopelessness they generate. However, a more precise description of the experiential connection between inceldom, self-reported autism, and hopelessness has remained unarticulated. Therefore, this article combines empirical studies on the incel community with phenomenological and embodiment approaches to autism, hopelessness, and online affectivity. We analyze three interrelated aspects of online interactions in incel communities – worldview, bodily self-relation, and mutual dismissals – and examine how these elements contribute to the consolidation of the loss of significant life possibilities. By investigating the potential negative influence of specific online environments on affective dispositions, our approach contributes to the debate on current challenges to “situate” phenomenological psychopathology.

Background: Body image is a transdiagnostic construct which appears poorly understood in the context of psychosis. Poor body image is associated with paranoia which makes it a theoretically meaningful treatment target in psychosis. We systematically reviewed associations between body image and psychosis symptoms in both the typical population and people living with psychotic disorders, synthesised known correlates of negative body image in people living with psychotic disorders and performed a meta-synthesis to understand the lived experience of body image in people with psychosis.Method: Ovid MEDLINE, OVID Embase, OVID APA PsycINFO, EBSCOhost Cinahl and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched in January 2024. The methodological quality and risk of bias were assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool.Results: 20,612 participants were included from 31 studies, of which 3203 (15.54%) living with psychotic conditions, 17,301 from the general population, 93 people with other conditions being compared to psychosis (such as bipolar disorder) and 15 carers. There were 25 quantitative studies (24 cross-sectional, 1 prospective), five qualitative studies, and one mixed-methods study. Cross-sectional evidence suggests associations between negative body image and psychotic symptoms, especially paranoia, as well as wider mental and physical health outcomes. Potential factors contributing to the persistence of poor body image include psychosis symptoms, worries about appearance related judgements, negative self-concept, body ambivalence, appearance related safety-seeking behaviours, and traumatic memoriesConclusions: Negative body image is relevant to the lives of people with psychosis spectrum conditions. Recommendations to guide and improve future research are reported.
