“…In comparison with other African countries, the prevalence of OW at 12% and OB at 5% observed in our study is less than reported in adolescents from the Democratic Republic of Congo but similar to data from South Africa , the Seychelles and far greater than that reported in Lagos, Nigeria . Our data showing almost double the prevalence of OW in girls than boys agree with data from South Africa and Seychelles . These combined data from the African continent suggest that the nutrition transition is moving apace in African countries and more predominantly than the malnutrition pattern that is more commonly represented in the Western press.…”
