Bochdalek Diaphragmatic Hernia Complicating Pregnancy in the third Trimester: Case Report

Abstract: birth or in the immediate neonatal period. Bochdalek hernias are the most prevalent CDH in neonates: 1 in 2200 births [2]. Clinical apparition for the first time in the adult period is rare and pregnancies complicated by Bochdalek hernia are even more unusual (to our knowledge 44 cases, including this one, have been reported in the literature since 1928).However, we don´t know the true prevalence of this kind of hernia in adults. Mullins et al published incidence in adults of 0.17%, based on the 13 138 abdomin… Show more

“…If a tension-free closure due to large defects is not possible, the surgical technique of flaps was inevitably performed in the past. Due to tremendous advances in prosthetic material over recent decades, the surgeon can use prosthetic material that has the advantages of reducing operation time and a tension-free repair [ 15 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 30 , 32 , 33 , 36 , 38 ].…”

“…In a case report by Hernandez-Aragon et al, USG and x-ray were applied to a pregnant patient for diagnostic purposes. As air-fluid level was seen over the diaphragm, the diagnosis was confirmed by MRI [9]. Nonetheless, there have been a few cases reported in the literature where x-ray and USG have been used on pregnant patients with a hernia.…”

“…Crump described the first Bochdalek hernia in pregnancy in the literature in 1911 [7]. To the best of our knowledge, there have been a total of 44 cases in pregnancy reported in the literature since 1959 [1, 2]. The symptoms may vary according to the organs herniated and the location covered in the hemithorax.…”
