The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of corporate governance mechanisms and profitability on firm value. The corporate governance mechanism consists of a board of directors, a board of commissioners, managerial ownership, and institutional ownership. Firm value is measured by Tobin's Q, while profitability is measured by return on assets. The population in this study were companies listed on the Indonesian Sharia Stock Index with a total sample of 103 companies taken by purposive sampling method. The observation period is for five years from 2015 to 2019. To test the hypothesis, the author applies panel data regression analysis. In selecting the panel data model, after being tested, the best model is the fixed effect model. The results of the research based on the fixed effects model show that the board of commissioners has a significant but negative effect on firm value, while the board of directors and profitability and ownership of institutions have a significant and positive effect on firm value, but managerial ownership has no significant effect on firm value.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the financial factors and board of directors characteristics on firm value. This research was conducted to obtain an overview of financial and non-financial factors influencing the value of the company during the Covid- 19 pandemic. The population of this study is Kompas 100 Index companies members for the 2019-2020 period, with a final sample of 72 companies. This study uses secondary data, and multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The results of this study show that Profitability and Board Meetings have a positive influence on firm value, while Company Size, Capital Structure, Board Independence, Board Size, and Gender Diversity have no effect on Firm Value and CEO Duality is only slightly present in Indonesia because Indonesia adheres to a two-tier system. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of the characteristics of two corporate governance mechanisms, namely, board of directors and ownership structure, on the firm value of European financial institutions.Design/methodology/approachUsing the market-to-book ratio calculated by the Thomson Reuters Eikon ASSET4 database, this study measures the firm value of 111 financial institutions belonging to 12 European countries listed on the stock exchange during the period 2007–2019. Multivariate regression analysis on panel data is used to estimate the relationship between corporate governance attributes, such as board size, board independence, board gender diversity, ownership concentration and CEO ownership, and the firm value of European financial institutions.FindingsThe empirical results reveal that board gender diversity and CEO ownership are positively related to the firm value, whereas board size and ownership concentration are negatively related. Furthermore, the findings suggest that board independence is insignificantly correlated with the firm value. Regarding the control variables, the results show that financial institutions' size, age and legal system are significant factors in changing the firm value. Nevertheless, financial institutions' leverage and activity sector are not significantly correlated with their value.Originality/valueThis research contributes to the literature by providing the significant links between some corporate governance mechanisms and the firm value of companies from the financial industry, by addressing the information gap for this critical industry in the context of a developed market like Europe.
