Star‐Shaped Phenanthroimidazole‐Triphenylamine‐Based Yellow Organic Emitter for Organic Light Emitting Diodes

In this work, new star-shaped conjugated organic emitter, namely tris(4-(1-(9,9-diethyl-9H-fluoren-2-yl)-1H-phenanthro [9,10-d]imidazol-2-yl)phenyl)amine (PIFTPA) with donor-p-acceptor (D-p-A) structure, was designed and synthesized by combining three fluoren-phenanthroimidazole arms into a triphenylamine core and characterized using 1 H, 13 C NMR and mass spectrometry. The detailed photophysical, thermal, electrochemical and electroluminescence properties were systematically studied. The organic emitter exhibits high glass transition temperature (230 8C) and high thermal stability with decomposition temperature. Electrochemical analysis reveals that the emitter has distinct oxidation and reduction behaviours. Furthermore, theoretical calculations (DFT) were performed to get a better understanding of the electronic structure. The OLEDs using this emitter as emissive material showed good device performance (6.45 cd/A, 4.39 lm/W, and 3.01%) with yellow emission and a low turn-on voltage (2.87 V). The results demonstrate that TPA integrated with phenthroimdazole plays an important role in the device performance.[a] J.

A novel blue luminescent 6-chloro-2-(4-cynophenyl) substituted diphenyl quinoline (Cl-CN DPQ) organic phosphor has been synthesized by the acid-catalyzed Friedlander reaction and then characterized to confirm structural, optical and thermal properties. Structural properties of Cl-CN-DPQ were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction technique (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX) spectroscopy. FTIR spectra confirmed the presence of different functional groups and bond stretching. H-NMR and C-NMR confirmed the formation of an organic Cl-CN-DPQ compound. X-ray diffraction study provided its crystalline nature. The surface morphology of Cl-CN-DPQ was analyzed by SEM, while EDAX spectroscopy revealed the elemental analysis. Differential thermal analysis (TGA/DTA) disclosed its thermal stability up to 250°C. The optical properties of Cl-CN-DPQ were investigated by UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) measurements. Cl-CN-DPQ exhibits intense blue emission at 434 nm in a solid-state crystalline powder with CIE co-ordinates (0.157, 0.027), when excited at 373 nm. Cl-CN-DPQ shows remarkable Stokes shift in the range 14800-5100 cm , which is the characteristic feature of intense light emission. A narrow full width at half-maximum (FWHM) value of PL spectra in the range 42-48 nm was observed. Oscillator strength, energy band gap, quantum yield, and fluorescence energy yield were also examined using UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence spectra. These results prove its applications towards developing organic luminescence devices and displays, organic phosphor-based solar cells and displays, organic lasers, chemical sensors and many more.

In this work, we have synthesized a new series of donor-acceptor system (2-7) involving electron donor triarylamines and electron acceptor naphtho[2,3-f]quinoxaline-7,12-dione by employing palladium catalyzed C-N bond forming amination reaction in good yields and fully characterized. Absorption spectra of all the synthesized molecules showed an intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) transitions in the range of 405-561 nm. Electrochemical properties of the compounds were studied by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels of 2-7 are in the range of À4.88 to À5.57 eV and À3.37 to À3.48 eV respectively. Low-lying LUMO energy levels of 2-7 are comparable to well-known electron transporter materials and make them potential candidates as n-type semiconducting materials.Scheme 1 Synthetic route for the synthesis of compounds 2-7.
