“…For example, 1 O 2 * triggers programs related to the overexcitation of PSII, while O 2 − and H 2 O 2 might turn other groups of genes on in order to mitigate the electron pressure on the reducing side of PSI [ 32 ]. A recent study showed that BL-exposed rose flowers increased SOD, CAT, POD and APX enzyme activities, maintained the membrane stability, and increased the sucrose and glucose contents [ 33 ]. This study also found that sucrose and glucose were increased after BL acclimation and during exposure to high irradiation ( Figure 7 ) and that they may contribute to orchid photoprotection.…”

“…The accumulation of phenolic free radicals led to the increase of chlorophyll content and the degradation of chlorophyll in freshly cut amaranth. Blue light could effectively activate the antioxidant defense system of plants, such as Stevia rebaudiana [ 38 ], lettuce [ 39 ], and carnation [ 40 ]. The increase of antioxidant enzyme activity not only helped to remove ROS, but reduced the irreversible damage caused by photooxidation [ 41 ].…”

“…It is well-recognized that adverse water relation caused by water loss from stomata and cuticular can lead to problems in flower opening, such as premature petal wilting and bending of pedicel, resulting in short vase life (van Meeteren and Aliniaeifard, 2016 ; Aliniaeifard and van Meeteren, 2018 ). In these experiments, blue light also promoted stomata opening and water uptake (Aalifar et al, 2020a , b ). Elevated water uptake and higher transpiration rates are reported to be beneficial for cut flowers placed in water (Elibox and Umaharan, 2010 ; Lu et al, 2010 ).…”

“…Cut flower reactions toward light stimuli including rhythmic growth, volatile compound emission, pigment synthesis, and disease resistance should be regulated through the interaction between plant photoreceptors sensitive to a particular wavelength and their downstream signaling pathways. In cut carnation ( Dianthus caryophyllus L.), blue light delayed the petal senescence through down-regulation of ethylene biosynthetic genes and up-regulation of antioxidant enzymes (Aalifar et al, 2020a , b ). It is well-recognized that adverse water relation caused by water loss from stomata and cuticular can lead to problems in flower opening, such as premature petal wilting and bending of pedicel, resulting in short vase life (van Meeteren and Aliniaeifard, 2016 ; Aliniaeifard and van Meeteren, 2018 ).…”
