Blood product transfusion in emergency department patients: a case-control study of practice patterns and impact on outcome

Abstract: BackgroundBlood product transfusion occurs in a significant percentage of intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Pulmonary complications, such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), occurring in the setting of transfusion, are associated with increased morbidity and mortality.
