Blood CoQ10 levels and safety profile after singe‐dose or chronic administration of PureSorb‐Q™40: Animal and human studies

Abstract: Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is known to be highly hydrophobic and, as such, insoluble in water: this leads to serious inconvenience when trying to incorporate it in food products. Its absorption is also known to be very limited. PureSorb-Q40 (P40) (Water-soluble type CoQ10 powder, CoQ10 content 40 w/w % was developed in order to improve its use with food products and to enhance its absorption. In the present study the absorption of this novel formulation was compared to a conventional lipid soluble CoQ10 by administe… Show more

“…CoQ10 deficiency usually occurs with aging and may increase the risk of CVD [ 9 , 16 , 17 ]. We have previously demonstrated in another meta-analysis that taking CoQ10 by patients with metabolic disorders significantly reduced serum triglycerides levels, yet did not affect other lipid profiles [ 10 ].…”

“…Single administration studies in rats and humans have shown that P40 (water-soluble coenzyme Q10 powder, its content 40 W/W%) absorbs better than classical oil formulations. Long-term administration studies confirmed that this improved bioavailability led to an obvious increase in plasma [ 84 ]. In order to improve the bioavailability of coenzyme Q10, several advances have been made by reducing particle size, enhancing solubility and using new drug carriers [ 87 ].…”

“…The data confirmed that the compound is safe and effective. In the United States, coenzyme Q10 has been sold as a dietary supplement under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act since 1994 [ 84 ]. As this drug has been promoted in clinical areas such as Parkinson’s disease, attention has been focused on improving its bioavailability and safety.…”

“…Recently, water-soluble CoQ10 was developed to improve absorption of CoQ10. Water-soluble CoQ10 showed higher uptake when administered in a fasting state or with food compared to lipid-soluble CoQ10 in a rat and human study [3] , [13] . Fentoni et al has reported the protective effect of another water-soluble CoQ10 in vivo experiments [14] .…”
