15.Abstract:Operational leadership is of critical importance to the military, especially in times of war; but it is a difficult term to define. Four key traits of the operational leader can be deduced as the most critical to successful wartime leadership: boldness, perseverance, flexibility and decisiveness.Using as a case study the operational leadership of General Helmuth von Moltke (The Younger) in executing the Schlieffen Plan in the opening days of World War I, we can review the impact that these four traits of operational leadership have on obtaining the strategic and military objectives of a campaign.
