The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) has brought about a myriad of applications to life which range from smart homes, smart energy, smart buildings, smart cities to almost smart everything. This has been made possible by fully exploiting the services of cloud infrastructure, communication technologies, improved sensing devices and advancements in embedded devices which helps in incorporating intelligence even on tiniest of chips. Blockchain is a decentralised distributed approach that can facilitate management, control and also provide security. The application of blockchain is not restricted to cryptocurrency and security. It is perceived that Blockchain in Convergence with Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Computing and Mobile Edge Computing can provide numerous prospects for framing solutions for IoT. Any application or system which deploys a IoT network can make use of Blockchain to achieve simplicity, transparency, security and cost efficiency. This paper tries to identify some key areas in which Blockchain can be used to exploit the IoT infrastructure and overcome the challenges faced. Few possible application domains in which blockchain can revolutionize the outcomes have been highlighted. A real-time case study in which Blockchain has been used to provide valuable benefits is discussed.

Blockchain Enhanced Emission Trading Framework in Fashion Apparel Manufacturing Industry

Motivated by the recent blockchain technology originally built for bitcoin transactions, various industries are exploring the opportunities to redefine their existing operational systems. In this study, an innovative environmentally sustainable solution is proposed for the fashion apparel manufacturing industry (FAMI), which is energized by blockchain. Incorporating the Emission Trading Scheme (ETS), and a novel "emission link" system, the proposed framework exposes carbon emission to the public and establishes a feature to reduce the emissions for all key steps of clothing making. Fully compatible with Industry 4.0, blockchain provides decentralization, transparency, automation, and immutability characteristics to the proposed framework. Specifically, the blockchain supported ETS framework, the carbon emissions of clothing manufacturing life cycle, and the emission link powered procedures are introduced in detail. A case study is provided to demonstrate the carbon emission evaluation procedure. Finally, a multi-criteria evaluation is performed to demonstrate the benefits and drawbacks of the proposed system.

Abstract. Nowadays, the concept of the industrial Internet of things is considered by researchers as the basis of Industry 4.0. Its use is aimed at creating a single information space that allows to unite all the components of production, starting from the processed raw materials to the interaction with suppliers and users of completed goods. Such a union will allow to change the established business processes of production to increase the customization of end products for the consumer and to reduce the costs for its producers. Each of the components is described using a digital twin, showing their main characteristics, important for production. The heterogeneity of these characteristics for each of the production levels makes it very difficult to exchange information between them. To solve the problem of interaction between individual components this paper proposes to use the ontological approach to model the components of industrial socio-cyberphysical systems. The paper considers four scenarios of interaction in the industrial Internet of things, based on which the upper-level ontology is formed, which describes the main components of industrial socio-cyberphysical systems and the connections between them.
