PurposeResearch has shown that business model innovation can facilitate most ventures to innovate and remain competitive, yet there has been limited work on how digital leadership capabilities influence business model innovation. Building on the dynamic capabilities view, we address this gap by linking digital leadership capabilities with business model innovation via managerial decision-making through provision of grants received by new ventures.Design/methodology/approachThe study is cross-sectional research. Data have been collected utilizing purposive sampling from 313 founding members of new ventures in high-velocity markets, i.e. from Pakistan. SPSS has been used to conduct the moderated mediation analysis.FindingsDigital leadership capabilities foster the business model innovation of the new ventures because they enable new ventures to capitalize on digital technologies and create new ways of generating value for the customers and themselves. Moreover, managerial decision-making mediates digital leadership capabilities and business model innovation relationship, whereas, grants moderate the indirect positive effect of digital leadership capabilities on business model innovation via managerial decision-making. The study generates initial evidence on the impact of digital leadership capabilities on business model innovation via managerial decision-making for new ventures. We advance knowledge on new ventures’ business model innovation by deep-diving into dynamic capabilities view and emphasizing digital leadership capabilities as a significant driver for business model innovation.Originality/valueWith the help of dynamic capabilities theory, this study analyzes how new ventures make use of digital leadership capabilities to promote business model innovation.

The research aims to scrutinize the influence of Industry 4.0 indicators and Big Data Analytics in innovating and transforming supply chain processes in the manufacturing sector of Pakistan, highlighting how Industry 4.0 factors alter supply chain activities. This study was conducted within the manufacturing industry, specifically targeting employees from the automobile sector in Karachi, Pakistan. Data was collected through online Google Forms, utilizing a closed-ended questionnaire deployed on a Likert scale, to explore various independent variables and their impact on supply chain performance. Survey responses indicate that the variables—supply chain flexibility, supply chain agility, research and development, role of MIS, leadership style, and big data analytics—predominantly influence supply chain performance, albeit with one insignificant relationship noted between leadership style and supply chain performance. The research also affirms the significant mediating impact of supply chain performance indicators on organizational performance. The research may confront limitations related to its generalizability across varied industries and regions due to potential disparities in technological adoption and regulatory frameworks, and the exclusive focus on supply chain performance as the sole mediator might overlook alternative pathways through which the independent variables could influence organizational performance. The insights derived from this research could serve as a guide for managers and manufacturing organizations to comprehend the transformations invoked by Industry 4.0, offering a lens through which to perceive shifts in supply chain performance and activities. The study offers a pivotal examination of the evolution in supply chain practices induced by Industry 4.0 and Big Data Analytics within the context of Pakistan’s manufacturing arena, thereby providing a valuable resource for practitioners and academicians to understand and navigate the landscape of digitally transformed supply chains.

PurposeThe present study investigates the impact of managerial psychological characteristics on the supply chain management efficiency (SCME) of companies listed in Tehran Stock Exchange.Design/methodology/approachTo this aim, information about 215 companies was analyzed during 2014–2021. The sales per inventory ratio was used to calculate SCME. In the present study, the focus is on characteristics such as managerial entrenchment, managerial myopia, managerial overconfidence (MOC) and managerial narcissism, all considered as managerial attributes.FindingsThe present findings showed that managerial myopia/managerial entrenchment (MOC/managerial narcissism) have a negative (positive) effect on SCME. Hypothesis testing based on robustness checks confirmed these results. Moreover, the findings are presented separately for companies with high business strategy (first quarter) and low business strategy (third quarter). The results show that at low levels of differentiation strategy, managerial entrenchment does not have a significant effect on SCME while other managerial attributes have a significant effect on both high and low business strategy.Originality/valueThe present study contributes to the identification of managerial psychological characteristics influencing SCME to advance future studies and support practical efforts. The present findings can prove the significance of this research and fill the existing gap in research.
