The Internet of vehicles (IoV) has appeared as an effective method of obtaining an intelligent transportation system able to deliver various innovative solutions and enable several applications as a replacement for vehicular ad‐hoc networks (VANETs). To help IoV contexts, enormous quantities of information are created and transmitted between various communication components wirelessly across multiple channels, which may entice attackers and put the network at risk. Security is one of the vital concerns and critical issues in VANETs and IoV networks. Blockchain is employed to create a distributed and secure IoV to overcome some centralized concerns and enhance the network architecture. This article presents a systematic and detailed review by selecting 28 review articles from 2018 to 2022 on blockchain‐based IoV (BIoV). We investigate the latest review and survey articles regarding their aspects, contributions, findings, limitations, and strong points to address unsolved problems of BIoV. In this article, the review/survey articles are systematically reviewed to resolve taxonomy aspects intended for BIoV. We provide a new taxonomy and discuss security concerns, open issues, and future directions so that researchers in this field can quickly and easily access recent content and do not need to read numerous review articles.

Overtaking at high speeds, especially on non-divided roadways, is a leading cause of traffic accidents. During overtaking maneuvers, humans are more likely to make mistakes due to factors that cannot be predicted. For overtaking operations in autonomous vehicles, prior research focused on image processing and distant sensing of the driving environment, which didn't consider the speed of the surrounding traffic, the size of the approaching vehicles, or the fact that they could not see beyond impediments in the road. The past researches didn't focus on the speed of the surrounding traffic or the size of the approaching vehicles. Moreover, most of the techniques were based on single agent systems where one agent manages the source vehicle's (autonomous) mobility within its surroundings. This research conducts a feasibility study on a remote Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication framework based on Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) to improve overtaking safety. This work also tries to improve safety by introducing a blockchain-based safety model called BCAS (Blockchain-based Collision Avoidance System). The proposed multi-agent technique strengthens the ability of real-time, high-speed vehicles to make decisions by allocating the total computation of processing responsibilities to each agent. From the experimental results, it is concluded that the proposed approach performs better than existing techniques and efficiently covers the limitations of existing studies.

This study presents a revolutionary blockchain-based security mechanism that authenticates vehicles and instantly alerts other vehicles to unlawful messages. Access should only be allowed to authenticated vehicles in order to increase the network security, and access should be restricted or revoked for any vehicles that exhibit inappropriate behaviour. Vehicles linked to the Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) can share data and take immediate action with the help of adjacent infrastructure devices, like streetlights and traffic signals, as well as with one another. In order to maintain efficiency and safety, an intelligent transportation system depends on the flow of information between vehicles. Intelligent vehicles are vulnerable to hacking attacks because they have numerous technical flaws. A proposed security scheme identifies malicious nodes and detects forged messages, based on multiple factors like sender reputation, time and distance effectiveness. This is accomplished by employing environmental sensory data and authenticating the packets, allowing a vehicle to add numerous blocks to the blockchain. Research has been conducted on the bases of safety protection for vehicle systems as a result of security concerns. When the proposed approach is tested on different vehicle and attacker densities, the results indicate that it has a lower authentication delay and higher communication overhead than the other existing approaches. This study explored various threats from malicious nodes and the techniques in which our proposed methodology handles such attacks.
