Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are becoming more popular for many applications due to their convenient services. However, sensor nodes may suffer from significant security flaws, leading researchers to propose authentication schemes to protect WSNs. Although these authentication protocols significantly fulfill the required protection, security enhancement with less energy consumption is essential to preserve the availability of resources and secure better performance. In 2020, Youssef et al. suggested a scheme called Enhanced Probabilistic Cluster Head Selection (LEACH-PRO) to extend the sensors’ lifetime in WSNs. This paper introduces a new variant of the LEACH-PRO protocol by adopting the blockchain security technique to protect WSNs. The proposed protocol (SLEACH-PRO) performs a decentralized authentication mechanism by applying a blockchain to multiple base stations to avoid system and performance degradation in the event of a station failure. The security analysis of the SLEACH-PRO is performed using Burrows–Abadi–Needham (BAN) logic and Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications (AVISPA) tool. Moreover, the SLEACH-PRO is evaluated and compared to related protocols in terms of computational cost and security level based on its resistance against several attacks. The comparison results showed that the SLEACH-PRO protocol is more secure and requires less computational cost compared to other related protocols.

Forest fires cause economic and material losses and destroy the environment, causing many negative impacts on human habitats and forest ecosystems. The unpredictable threat of wildfires leads to climate change and the greenhouse effect. It is worth noting that up to 90% of forest fires occur mainly due to human activities [1], even due to tampering, vandalism, and hostile actions. Therefore, to minimize the destruction caused by forest fires as well as accurately identify the area where forest fires occur and support government agencies, forest rangers, and search and disaster relief forces, ... it is necessary to monitor, detect and warn of forest fires right from the early stage (early warning). This paper proposes to use static sensor nodes combined with mobile in wireless sensor network (WSN) to Forest fire Monitoring, Detection, and Early Warning - FMDW. At the same time, integrating Blockchain technology (BC) in WSN solves the problem of secure routing, and distributed data storage, and prevents destructive and tampering attacks. This also suggests new research directions on monitoring, detecting, warning, and protecting forests in countries using Blockchain security technology in WSN.

A secure routing scheme plays an integral role in ensuring the secure routing and efficiency of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Recently, many studies have been undertaken to improve the data aggregation process, data security, and routing security. However, these approaches are highly suffered due to major limitations like time complexity, malicious attacks, and data insecurity. This research aims to develop an improved blockchain based encryption scheme for secure routing in wireless sensor networks using machine learning techniques. An improved artificial quantum beetle swarm neural network approach is proposed to perform the data aggregation among the sensor nodes. The cosine equivalent function and packet density correlation degree approach is emphasized to perform clustering in sensor nodes. The cluster head (CH) is selected based on the similarity of each sensor node. The Kalman filtering technique is introduced to filter out the data from unwanted malicious. This technique helps to filter the data before it is sent to the CH. Blockchain‐based encryption scheme is emphasized for data security by preventing malicious attacks during data transmission. The enhanced differential evaluation based firefly routing protocol is presented to maintain secure routing by choosing the optimal routing for the protected data transmission. Performance metrics such as latency, throughput, routing performance, energy consumption, FPR, blockchain (BC) computational performance, dead sensor count and average hop count are analyzed and compared with existing techniques. In an experimental scenario, the proposed approach achieves a maximum packet delay of 500 slots, throughput of 581 times/s, a latency of 0.31 ms, a computation complexity of 0.6, and a routing complexity of 2081 ms with a BC computation time of 95 ms. The performance of the proposed approach shows a better result than other existing approaches.
