In this research article, we propose a method based on genetic algorithms to optimize the grouping of students in engineering education. Our method aims to create student groups that take into account their skills, preferences, and relevant factors. We build upon previous research that has successfully utilized genetic algorithms for group formation in various contexts, such as assigning students to laboratory groups and facilitating cooperative learning. We implement and evaluate our proposed methods in collaborative learning environment, examining their impact on collaborative performance, processes, and perceptions. The results of our research demonstrate that grouping methods supported by genetic algorithms positively influence performance and collaborative processes, while students perceive these methods as fair and effective. This article makes a valuable contribution to the field of engineering education by providing methods that up to minus student grouping, considering their initial characteristic and performance and preferences. By employing these methods, the quality of group work can be enhanced leading to improve student learning experiences. Future research can explore the application of the of this method in order educational settings and investigate the factors that influence their effectiveness.

Technology is being increasingly used in education to develop various forms of media that effectively support instruction and learning. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which students majoring in electronics engineering education at Higher Education benefit from the use of different learning applications and how much influence they have on the overall level of student performance, by exploring the area of the correlation between the independent variable of Learning Strategy and student performance, with the consideration of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a possible mediator in this correlation. The current study utilized purposive sampling to collect a representative sample of 229 participants. The data was then analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM), utilizing the Partial Least Square (PLS) method as the initial approach. The software used for this analysis was SmartPLS 4.0 and Network Analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between items in this study. Based on the results of this study, effective learning strategies and a high level of student acceptance of technology will have a positive impact on student performance or lead to improved student performance. Educational applications provide the potential to be streamlined and utilized by students through a pedagogical approach, as their user-friendly nature facilitates effective deployment.

This article presents a proposal of project-based learning (PBL) as a didactic tool to meet the learning results (LR) proposed in the syllabus of the course Digital Design with Microcontrollers taught in the Electronic Engineering course of the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas in Bogotá, Colombia. Students are provided with all the information related to the project, the design methodology, what is expected from the project, and how to evaluate the results of the work done. The proposed methodology shows the students that, from a practical project usually applied to the real environment, the theoretical information shown in the classroom is immediately applicable, increasing their motivation and willingness to work. In addition, another skill, teamwork, is reinforced by applying this type of teaching, since each member of the working group (three students per group) has a role in the project’s development. The low-cost development kit CY8CKIT-059 for PSoC5LP, manufactured by Infineon Technologies AG, is used in the course to apply the proposal. As a case study to demonstrate the methodology, the design of a data logger that stores humidity and temperature from a digital sensor, developed as one of several projects presented by students in recent semesters, is presented. When comparing the quantitative results obtained from the course in previous semesters with those obtained after applying the project-based learning methodology, a significant improvement can be seen: the percentage of students passing is significantly higher.
