Bladder Storage and Emptying Disorder Frequencies in Hemorrhagic and Ischemic Stroke Patients with Bladder Dysfunction

Abstract: Background: Bladder dysfunction is common in stroke patients and it has a considerable impact on their lives. The objective of this study was to investigate the frequencies of urine storage and emptying disorders in hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke patients with persistent bladder dysfunction. Methods: A total of 48 stroke patients who underwent urodynamic tests because of persistent bladder dysfunction were evaluated retrospectively. Urine storage and emptying disorder frequencies were determined and compared … Show more

“…12 The lower limit of the normal bladder capacity was determined as 300 ml for adult patients. [13][14][15][16] The lower limit was determined as 300 ml in the children who were X10 years old, similar to adult patients, as the expected bladder capacity measured with the formula was 4300 ml in these children. Storage disorder presence was accepted if the maximum cystometric capacity measured during the filling phase was o300 ml in adult patients and in children 410 years and if the maximum cystometric capacity measured during the filling phase was lower than the expected bladder capacity in children o10 years.…”

“…Em estudos prévios, alterações de armazenamento são descritas em 73,3% no AVCh e 63,6% nos isquêmicos. Em relação as queixas de esvaziamento, com predominância para o grupo de AVCi com 51,5% e 13,3% no hemorrágico 25 . Para Fowler 6 , noctúria esteve presente em 36% dos pacientes até três meses após o AVC, seguido de 29% com urgeincontinência, 25% hesitação, e 6% retenção urinária.…”

“…MC was defined as a patient experienced sensation that would normally lead to immediate evacuation of the bladder, the volume at the time as intravesical pressure was above 40 cm H 2 O, and the volume at the time as the beginning of voiding without control (11). Storage dysfunction was defined as MC was less than 300 mL and emptying dysfunction was defined as PVR was 50 mL or more (12). Detrusor overactivity (DO) was defined as a spontaneously non-volutional detrusor contractions in the storage phase of urodynamic study (11).…”
