Abstract-Future generation mobile communications running on mm-wave frequencies will require great robustness against frequency selective channels. In this work we evaluate the transmission performance of 4.9 Gbps Wavelet-Coded OFDM signals on a 10 km fiber plus 58 m wireless Radio-over-Fiber link using a mm-wave radio frequency carrier. The results show that a 2×128 Wavelet-Coded OFDM system achieves a bit-error rate of 1e-4 with nearly 2.5 dB less signal-to-noise ratio than a convolutional coded OFDM system with equivalent spectral efficiency for 8 GHz-wide signals with 512 sub-carriers on a carrier frequency of 86 GHz. Our findings confirm the Tzannes' theory that wavelet coding enables high diversity gains with a low complexity receiver and, most notably, without compromising the system's spectral efficiency.

Resumo -No presente artigo a técnica de diversidade em modulação (DM)é aplicadaà transmissão de imagens (baseada em quantização vetorial) por um canal com desvanecimento Rayleigh. Os benefícios da DM são apresentados e discutidos. A combinação da DM com a técnica de atribuição deíndices (quantização vetorial robusta)é avaliada. O trabalho também apresenta uma avaliação dos efeitos dos erros de estimação de canal no desempenho do sistema de comunicações que utiliza DM, em termos de taxa de erro de bit e da qualidade das imagens reconstruídas. Palavras-chave:Diversidade em modulação, comunicações móveis, desvanecimento Rayleigh, transmissão de imagens, erros de estimação de canal, quantização vetorial.Abstract -In the present paper the modulation diversity (MD) technique is applied to image transmission (based on vector quantization) over a Rayleigh fading channel. The benefits of MD are presented and discussed. The combination of MD with the index assignment technique (robust vector quantization) is evaluated. INTRODUÇÃOO objetivo das técnicas de compressão de imagemé reduzir o número de bits necessários para representar uma imagem (mantendo um nível de qualidade adequado para uma dada aplicação), visando reduzir os requisitos de memória e/ou largura de faixa. O restante do artigo está organizado da seguinte maneira. A quantização vetorialé descrita na Seção 2, que aborda a QV em transmissão por canais ruidosos. A Seção 3 descreve a aplicação do algoritmo simulated annealing ao problema de atribuição deíndices (quantização vetorial robusta). A Seção 4 aborda a diversidade em modulação e descreve o modelo do sistema de comunicações considerado no presente trabalho. Na Seção 5 os resultados de simulação são apresentados e discutidos. Conclusões e comentários finais são apresentados na Seção 6.
