Bispectral Index Sensor Electrodes Can Induce Erythematous Skin Lesions

Abstract: [Abstract]We report a patient with postoperative irritant contact dermatitis caused by bispectral index (BIS) sensor electrodes during surgery. The skin lesions resolved within 8 days of surgery on application of a dexamethasone-containing ointment. Erythematous skin lesions caused by the use of BIS sensor electrodes are rare. However, it should be noted that BIS sensor electrodes could induce these lesions.

Patch tests were not conducted in any cases, and no definitive diagnosis was made.…”
