Abstract:We report a case of unexplained transient ventricular fibrillation in a child with ventricular septal defect (VSD) scheduled for VSD closure. The bispectral index (BIS) values dropped within 15s of transient cardiac arrest and it showed recovery within 15 s of restoration of circulation. Monitoring BIS during surgery, especially cardiac surgeries may help identify periods of cerebral ischemia early.
Cerebral vasculature. Central Message Transcranial Doppler-determined limits of adequate perfusion pressure and presence of autoregulation are variable. Cerebral oximetry and processed EEG may be more practical in nonresearch settings.
The BIS is a better outcome predictor than BIS or BIS for patients with HIE after resuscitation. Lower BIS represents higher risk of mortality. Additionally, BIS value decreases to zero represents a poor outcome.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
