“…(20) Swiss ball and perineal exercises When compared with other NPMs, the Swiss ball use alone showed similar pain reduction outcomes as did the hot aspersion bath (27) and thermotherapy. (20) Contrasting such findings in an RCT, (12) the Swiss ball showed a greater effect on the reduction of pain compared to the aspersion bath, associated to the increase in the release of β-endorphins and reduction of epinephrine secretion, which were superior to the neuroendocrine results of the hydrotherapy. The first study (27) did not have a CG, and the sample size was very small (n=15), which hampers deductions and generalizations.…”

“…The second study reviewed (20) demonstrated that results can be related to the distraction of parturient consciousness, an important factor for the decrease in the identification of pain. However, the use of the ball reduced labor time, closely linked to the adoption of the vertical position and to pelvic balance.…”

“…(7) The use of the Swiss ball to perform perineal exercises during labor is an auxiliary therapy in the obstetrical practice that promotes comfort and pain relief, labor progression, and favors the vertical position. (15) This intervention provides less need for medication and cesarean section. (2,9,10) However, to date, few clinical trials have been conducted on this topic to support the effects on the labor progress and childbirth, and most of the studies are focused on pain relief.…”

“…Patients who engage in these strategies aim to reduce the severity of their symptoms (e.g., pain, numbness, tingling, allodynia) and increase overall comfort and well-being [22][23][24][25]. Heat therapy, massage, and TENS are examples of self-initiated self-management measures that are used by patients who experience pain, including PN-related pain, because of their relatively low cost, ease of access, and perceived efficacy of such interventions [23][24][25][43][44][45][46][47].…”
