Bird cestodes from Huinay (Comau Fjord), Chilean Patagonia: several species of the family Dilepididae (Platyhelminthes, Cyclophyllidea), with the erection of two new genera

Abstract: Birds in the Huinay area, Los Lagos region, Chile, were studied for parasites. Here we report 2 new genera and species of the family Dilepididae (Cyclophyllidea) found in common local passerines: Janinelliapeebeehigen. n., sp. n. was found in Elaeniaalbiceps (Tyrannidae) and Huinaylepiselegansgen. n., sp. n. was found in Aphrasturaspinicauda (Furnariidae). Other dilepidid parasites are reported for the first time from Xolmispyrope (Tyrannidae) and from 2 species of Rhinocryptidae. Cotylorhipissureshi Jadhav & … Show more

“…In this context, a team of taxonomists led by the present authors focused on avian parasites, with a particular focus on Cyclophyllidea of terrestrial birds (Mariaux et al 2017). This resulted in various expeditions targeting particularly understudied hosts and regions (for previously published results, see Dimitrova et al 2013Dimitrova et al , 2017Dimitrova et al , 2019Widmer et al European Journal of Taxonomy 616: 1-35 (2020) 2 2013; Phillips et al 2014;Mariaux & Georgiev 2018a, 2018b. The present contribution reports on the parasite fauna of a small collection of terrestrial birds examined in a well-conserved area of secondary and primary forest in Selangor State, North of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.…”
