Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the catheter care given to patients with an inserted central venous catheter in the light of protocols and evidence-based applications.Methods: The universe of the study consisted of 300 nurses working in the surgical and internal medicine units of the Health Sciences University Sultan Abdülhamid Han Training and Research Hospital. Although we planned to reach the whole universe in the sample, a total of 202 nurses were included in the study because 60 nurses left the hospital due to appointment to other provinces, and 38 nurses did not want to participate in the study. Data were collected using the face-to-face interview method through a questionnaire form designed by the researcher.Results: Of the 202 nurses included in the study, 183 (90.6%) were female, and 146 (72.3%) had an undergraduate degree. Nurses who had received information about central venous catheter before and who were aware of the existence of a protocol/procedures/instructions about central venous catheter in the institution were found to get significantly high scores from correct answers that they gave to questions about central venous catheter (p = .001, p = .035)Conclusions: To provide effective central venous catheter care, nurses should have information about the changing and developing care as well as good theoretical knowledge by following current research. In-service training programs in this area should be planned for nurses, and nurses should participate in activities such as congresses, seminars, and courses.

In the study of Köse et al (30) found 26.4% of the nurses replied the question about replacing the bladder every week as 'correct' , and 14.1% replied as 'I don't know' . In our study, the knowledge level of nurses was found high about the most effective way of urine monitoring which is bladder catheterization (82.7%), however, 64.7% expressed that the urinary catheter should be regularly changed once a week.…”

Aim: This study was carried out to determine surgical nurses' knowledge levels about hemodynamic monitoring. Material and Method: The research was carried out in a descriptive design to determine the knowledge levels of surgical nurses related to hemodynamic monitoring. Nurses working in the surgical clinics of three hospitals in the Eastern Black Sea Region. 156 surgery nurses took part in the study. The data were collected through a questionnaire developed by the researchers. Percentage, mean, standard deviation, median, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, t-test in independent groups, and variance analysis in multiple groups were used to evaluate the data in the research. Results: The mean score of the nurses' knowledge about hemodynamic monitoring was 65.3±7.9. There was a significant difference between nurses' receiving education on monitoring, gender, marital status, education level and the mean scores of their knowledge about hemodynamic monitoring (p<0.05). Conclusion:The study revealed that nurses had a lack of knowledge about hemodynamic monitoring, which was reflected in nursing care and practices. It is recommended that surgical nurses are provided detailed and regular training on hemodynamic monitoring methods and follow-up including nursing care.

Knowledge and Attitudes of Nurses about Urinary Catheter and Prevention of Catheter-Associated InfectionsAim: This study was undertaken to explore knowledge and attitudes of nurses about urinary catheter and prevention of catheter-associated infections. Methods: The population of this descriptive study was composed of nurses who worked at a training and research hospital in a province. The study utilized no sampling method, and 131 nurses who volunteered to join the study and were contacted were recruited for the study. The data of the study were collected using descriptive questionnaire that addressed at nurses' sociodemographic characteristics and Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) between April and May 2019. In the analysis of the data; numbers, percentages, means, Mann Whitney-U test and Kruskall Wallis test were used. Results: 35.1% of the nurses were aged ≥35 years, 87.0% of them were female and 60.3% of them had undergraduate degrees. 24.4% of the participating nurses had a work-length of 6-10 years and 53.4% of them received training about catheterassociated urinary system infections. It was identified that nurses had an average score of 62.18±7.11. It was identified that such variables as age, sex, educational status, work-length did not affect nurses' urinary catheter and catheter-associated infections. Conclusion:It was found that more than half of the participant nurses received training about catheter-associated urinary system infections and showed a high level of knowledge and attitudes about urinary catheter and prevention of catheterassociated infections. It may be recommended that the number of on-job trainings about preventing catheter-associated infections be elevated and continued.
