BiPOD arthroscopically assisted bidirectional stabilisation technique for high-grade acromioclavicular joint injury: two-year clinical and radiological outcomes

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this study was to evaluate the intermediate-term clinical and radiological outcomes for acute, unstable acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) injuries treated with the arthroscopically assisted BiPOD stabilisation technique. Methods Twenty-three patients who sustained acute, unstable ACJ injuries were included in this prospective study. We recorded demographics, injury classification, time to surgery, clinical scores, radiological outcomes a… Show more

“…When practicing Taijiquan, the knee joint relies on these two axes to complete different Taijiquan movements. Due to the characteristics of Taijiquan, the knee joint always maintains a state of flexion during the movement, that is, most of the movement of the knee joint is carried out around the vertical axis [16,17].…”

“…In the chronic setting, the use of tendon grafts is recommended [ 20 , 21 , 22 ]. Independent of the interval since injury, coracoclavicular and AC ligament addressment is essential to restore bidirectional ACJ stability [ 23 , 24 ].…”

“…Usually failed conservative therapy over a time period of months is the indication for AC-joint resection or resection of the lateral clavicle [ 14 ]. This procedure can be performed either in an open fashion or arthroscopically [ 21 , 28 , 31 ]. Because of the preservation of the superior capsule, the preference and better outcome are attributed to the arthroscopic technique nowadays [ 4 , 7 , 15 , 23 , 26 ].…”
