“…This is consistent with data from the only previous Colombian bibliometric study [9] that showed an increasing trend in the number of publications on infectious diseases in the main Colombian journals from 2000 to 2009. Using a similar approach, a growing pattern has been shown for Colombia's academic production in the field of biotechnology for the period 2001-2012 [22]. However, in contrast to this work, our study analyzed publications from the four main databases and the main international journals to have a better view of the current situation of research on viruses in Colombia.…”

“…The 52 journals indexed under the Palaeontology WoK class are expected to be sufficiently representative of the core literature in this field, and these were used for the study. For the biotechnology publications also a simple methodology was followed by extracting publications under the biochemistry and molecular biology classification this method has been used by others authors (Martinez, Jaime & Camacho, 2014). According to Abramo et al (2012), the appropriate duration of citation time should be at least three years in order to provide reliable citation data.…”

“…Other transformation strategies focused on identifying volatile compounds in the submerged cultures of various basidiomycetes [ 11 , 21 ]. Although the extensive diversity of fungi constitutes a biotechnological potential in Colombia, research in this field is still scarce [ 32 ]. Important advances have been made in the description, characterisation, and evaluation of the biological activity of moulds and, more recently, endophytic fungi [ 33 ].…”
