Biotechnological and Ecological Potential of Micromonospora provocatoris sp. nov., a Gifted Strain Isolated from the Challenger Deep of the Mariana Trench

Abstract: A Micromonospora strain, isolate MT25T, was recovered from a sediment collected from the Challenger Deep of the Mariana Trench using a selective isolation procedure. The isolate produced two major metabolites, n-acetylglutaminyl glutamine amide and desferrioxamine B, the chemical structures of which were determined using 1D and 2D-NMR, including 1H-15N HSQC and 1H-15N HMBC 2D-NMR, as well as high resolution MS. A whole genome sequence of the strain showed the presence of ten natural product-biosynthetic gene c… Show more

“…In the last 20 years the genus Micromonospora has moved from the group of ‘rare actinobacteria’ to a highly diverse overcrowded genus with more than 100 species and thousands of isolates recovered. Its members have been isolated from many different environments including air [1], agricultural soils [2], deserts [3], insect tissues [4], plants [5], the Marianas trench [6], and marine sediments [7]. Their genome size, around 7 Mbp, is considered to contain enough genes to allow adaptation to such diverse environments [8].…”

“…The Mariana Trench is located in the western Pacific Ocean, about 2550 km long and 70 km wide with a greatest depth of more than 11 km, representing the deepest part of the world's oceans. In spite of its harsh environments, mainly featuring high pressure and low temperature, the Mariana Trench contains huge and diverse microbes [21][22][23][24][25]. Isolating and identifying novel microbial strains from the Mariana Trench is the beginning of further exploration of environmental adaptation strategies and exploiting the application potential of these particular microbial resources.…”

“…The second substructure was determined to be the known desferrioxamine B based on comparing the unassigned NMR data to the reported data. , The HMBC correlations of H 2 -11 to C-1 and C-3 showed that the benz[ h ]isoquinoline skeleton is coupled to desferrioxamine B via N-2. The determined structure of 1 is shown in Figure .…”
