Biosynthesis of Silver Nanoparticles With Antimicrobial and Anticancer Properties Using Two Novel Yeasts

Abstract: AgNPs is nanomaterials with many potential biomedical applications. In this study, two novel yeast strains named as HX-YS and LPP-12Y capable of producing biological silver nanoparticles were isolated. Based on sequencing of ribosomal DNA-ITS fragments, as well as partial D1/D2 regions of 26S rDNA be similar with genus Metschnikowia. The BioAgNPs produced by HX-YS and LPP-12Y at pH of 5.0 - 6.0 and 26℃ ranged in size from 50 to 500 nm. The antibacterial activities of yeast BioAgNPs against five pathogenic bact… Show more

“…Consequently, silver nanoparticles are being intensively explored for various applications due to their specific physicochemical characteristics such as large surface-area-to-volume ratio, increased surface plasmon resonance, and ease of ligand functionalization [21]. Accordingly, they were tested for different biomedical applications due to their antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic, and antitumor effects [20,22]. Silver and silver nanoparticles have been recently shown to exert cytotoxic effects on cancer cells but not on normal cells, being proposed as a tumor theranostic agent [23].…”
