Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles formation from Caesalpinia pulcherrima stem metabolites and their broad spectrum biological activities

Abstract: The present work illustrates eco-friendly, rapid and cost effective method of AgNPs synthesis using C. pulcherrima stem extract. Initially, various physico chemical factors were optimized. Characterization was done by different spectroscopic and microscopic analysis. AgNPs were spherical in shape with an average size of 8 nm. AgNPs showed good synergistic antimicrobial, antibiofilm and antioxidant activity. The cytotoxicity effect against HeLa cancer cell line was dose dependent while genotoxic study revealed … Show more

“…It is observed from this figure that, the reducing activity enhanced by increasing the amount of P. major extract or the produced biosynthesized AgNPs and a dose-dependent manner was observed in this study. The similar result also reported by other researchers and also by our research group in synthesized AgNPs using other herbal extracts 26,63 . The phytochemical constituent in the P. major extract, which is effective in the bioreduction of Ag + to Ag 0 , can be appeared by the FRAP assay.…”

“…However, several studies proposed that AgNPs mode of action against bacteria could be related to following points (a) interact with the membrane surface during cell wall synthesis (b) suppression during protein synthesis (c) disruption of transcription process (d) perturbation of metabolic pathways where interact of Ag with the thiol groups of respiratory enzymes of bacteria 17,30 . Furthermore, MICs and MBCs of biogenic AgNPs exhibited good bactericidal activity at low concentrations against tested bacterial strains 78 . No available reports for MICs and MBCs for AgNPs prepared by lichens.…”

“…Therefore, 5 mM concentration of AgNO 3 solution was used for further set of experiments. AgNO 3 at 5 mM has been optimised for AgNPs synthesis through Argemone Mexicana, while 1 mM AgNO 3 has also been optimised for AgNPs synthesis through Ocimum tenuiflorum, Solanum tricobatum, Syzygium cumini, Centella asiatica, Caesalpinia pulcherrima and Citrus sinensis [30][31][32]. After 4 h the brown colour solution was centrifuged and the received pellet was analysed under UV-Vis spectrophotometer after resuspending in DI water.…”
