Biosynthesis of antibacterial silver nanoparticles using Astragalus verus Olivier

Abstract: In this work, a green method was introduced for preparing silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using gum tragacanth extracted from Astragalus verus Olivier. The absence of a chemical reducing agent that may be toxic is an advantage of this method. The Ag NPs were prepared in different tragacanth concentrations, pH values, and temperatures. XRD, FT-IR, and UV-vis spectroscopy analyses confirmed the structure of the synthesised Ag NPs. TEM and FESEM images showed that the prepared Ag NPs have spherical shapes. The FESE… Show more

“…Biosynthesis of SNPs from plant materials has fascinated scientists in the last decade, being a novel technique with a simple one-step methodology that does not produce hazardous chemicals. As a result, this method is very cost-effective, as well as ecologically benign and leaves minimally hazardous residues in soil and water [44][45][46]. The stronger the bactericidal activity, the bigger the surface area of the bacterial membrane, resulting in smaller SNPs, according to one probable mechanism for silver nanoparticles' antibacterial capabilities.…”

“…[9] A. verus has natural distributions in Armenia, Afghanistan, Turkey, and the mountainous areas of central Iran. [9,10] This species is regarded as one of the most important industrial species in Iran, with medicinal properties. [9,10] Astragalus adscendens is an Iranian endemic species which produces a valuable gum, locally called "Gaz-angabin".…”

[9,10] Astragalus adscendens is an Iranian endemic species which produces a valuable gum, locally called "Gaz-angabin". [11] This gum is used in various industries, particularly because of its anti-diabetic, anti-spas-modic, anti-headache and anti-flatulent effects.…”
