Bioremediation and Biodegrdation of Oil by Biosurfactants

Abstract

The energy resources mainly in petroleum and petroleum hydrocarbons are major pollutants of the environment. The oil and oil products contamination may cause severe harm and hence the attention has remaindered in the development of alternate technologies for elimination of contaminants. Biosurfactants were used in the remediation of oil pollution due to advantages such as biodegradability a low toxicity. Microbial surfactants are amphiphilic compounds produced in living species or excreted extracellular hydrophobic and hydrophilic moieties that confer on the organism the ability to accumulate between fluid phases thus reducing surface and interfacial tension. The present study was focused to isolate biosurfactant producing bacteria, screening, stability and identification of that compound and its biodegrading capacity.
