Abstract

Aims and ScopeThis book series reviews current trends in modern biotechnology and biochemical engineering. Its aim is to cover all aspects of these interdisciplinary disciplines, where knowledge, methods and expertise are required from chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, chemical engineering and computer science.Volumes are organized topically and provide a comprehensive discussion of developments in the field over the past 3-5 years. The series also discusses new discoveries and applications. Special volumes are dedicated to selected topics which focus on new biotechnological products and new processes for their synthesis and purification.In general, volumes are edited by well-known guest editors. Traditional bioreactors include enzyme reactors and microbial fermentors, but recent research activities on bioreactors have significantly extended to various scales of them whether in a large natural ecology system or at a micro-scale level of nano sizes. Although bioreactor and bioreactor technology seem to be a traditional area of biochemical engineering and biotechnology, recently some new types of bioreactors have still been developed and applied into industrial practice. New methodology concepts on bioreactor research have also been proposed on the basis of cell biology and metabolic engineering. Therefore, in this context, this special volume is dedicated to bioreactor engineering to make the old new, and six invited chapters ranging from novel design of bioreactors to methodologies of bioreactor/bioprocess analysis and optimization are included.As well know...
