Bioprospection of cellulolytic and lipolytic South Atlantic deep-sea bacteria

Abstract: Background: Cellulases and lipases have broad industrial application, which calls for an urgent exploration of microorganisms from extreme environments as valuable source of commercial enzyme. In this context, the present work describes the bioprospection and identification of deep-sea bacteria that produce cellulases and lipases, as well their optimal temperature of activity. Results: The first step of this study was the screening of cellulolytic and lipolytic deep-sea bacteria from sediment and water column,… Show more

“…On the other hand, Muñoz [27] isolated 17 strains with autotrophic capabilities, which implies the possibility of metabolizing inorganic molecules by synthesis or hydrolysis. Likewise, Jussie et al [28] isolated 161 strains from the South Atlantic Ocean, of which 58 had cellulolytic and/or proteolytic properties. There are reports of microbial concentrations reaching up to 3.63 × 10 4 microbial cells per milliliter in the Colombian marine muddy snows [29].…”

“…Entre los grupos fenotípicos más representados para ambos niveles de los sitios mesofóticos se destacan los bacilos G+ esporulados; donde se incluye el género Bacillus, reconocido como productores de diferentes exoenzimas (Odisi et al 2012;Lailaja & Chandrasekaran, 2013;Gawas et al 2019;Jin et al 2019).…”
