Biomimicry for Energy-Efficient Building Design: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: With the development of the biomimicry approach, new and creative ideas have been established to solve problems in architectural design. In the designs based on this process, “nature” is used as a diverse data source for the transfer of these data to various processes, functions, materials, and structures. The primary purpose of this paper is to explore the development of biomimicry as an architectural approach, with a bibliometric review of research related to biomimicry and energy efficiency. Emphasis on the… Show more

“…Nevertheless, the Web of Science mainly covers content published in English and, as discussed earlier, there is no specific filtering function for the field of design. Thus, the investigation of other multilingual repositories, such as Scopus, Google Scholar, EBSCO, ProQuest [ 19 , 47 ] is recommended. Furthermore, when analyzing other systematic reviews, it is noticeable that other software and platforms, in addition to those employed in the present review, have been used by authors to organize and facilitate data processing.…”

“…Furthermore, when analyzing other systematic reviews, it is noticeable that other software and platforms, in addition to those employed in the present review, have been used by authors to organize and facilitate data processing. Some examples are: MAXQDA, CiteSpace, Publish or Perish, San-keyMATIc, Bibexcel, Gephi, Pajek, Ucinet, and Science of Science (Sci2) [ 47 , 48 , 49 ].…”

“…The bibliometric analysis method is useful for investigating the growth of research topics, finding relationships between logical progresses, applying modifications to the common approach, and identifying expanding interdisciplinary alliances. This method provides detailed quantitative and statistical scientific information regarding the processes of making decisions (Varshabi et al, 2022). VOSviewer software tool was used to analyze bibliometric data, create bibliometric coupling, and generate the bibliometric mapping (Van Eck and Waltman, online).…”

“…Architects and designers refer to nature-based design using interpretations of several bio-related keywords, such as biomimicry, biomimetics, bionics, biomorphism, ecomimicry, and organic design [ 13 ]. The field is still new and abstract, but it is already broad ranging.…”
