Biomimetic Fabrication of Janus Fabric with Asymmetric Wettability for Water Purification and Hydrophobic/Hydrophilic Patterned Surfaces for Fog Harvesting

Abstract: The long-term shortage of freshwater resources has drawn increasing research attention for water purification and collection. This work reports a facile method to prepare Janus fabrics with asymmetric wettability for on-demand oil/water separation and hydrophobic/hydrophilic patterned fabrics for efficient fog harvesting. Here, the superhydrophobic fabric was prepared by in situ polymerization of polydivinylbenzene (PDVB) on cotton fabric. By regulating the polymerization time, the PDVB polymer content was cha… Show more

“…49 In addition, switchable hydrophilic and hydrophobic patterns have been designed for lotus-like self-cleaning capabilities. [50][51][52][53] However, most of these methods require complicated fabrication and surface treatment, which oen involve chemical reactions in organic solvent. [54][55][56][57][58][59] It is much more challenging to create a durable hydrophobic surface using simple and straightforward waterborne coating formulations.…”

“…This result illustrated that there was an entanglement between the PP and PE macromolecules. 39 Moreover, an increase was observed in the intensity of the peaks to the crystalline phases of the PE/PP, which indicated that the presence of PE increased the crystallinity of the systems. Figure 8 depicted the optimum conditions of die temperature and PE mass content to obtain the highest softness scores.…”
