“…GQDs can be finally obtained using a variety of macromolecular or small molecular substances [51] as the starting materials through high temperature and pressure [52][53][54][55]. The principle is to break the bonds between carbon materials to form GQDs via high temperature under high pressure [56][57][58][59]. Tian et al [60] used H 2 O 2 to synthesize GQDs in N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) environment by one-step solvothermal method.…”

“…A very simple method of self-assembly is drop-casting, wherein a drop of colloidal suspension is spread on the desired substrate and allowed to evaporate, which pulls the nanoparticles together. 69,70 Evaporation is also the main characteristic in the vertical deposition method, where a substrate is vertically submerged in a colloidal solution and allowed to evaporate for several days (Fig. 10A).…”

“…GQDs are a 0D material with sizes below 10 nm and characteristics deriving from graphene and carbon dots. GQDs can be readily synthesized by pyrolyzing citric acid and dispersing the carbonized products into alkaline solutions [80], exfoliation [81], and hydrothermal methods [82], among others [80].…”
