Biometry reference range of the corpus callosum in neonates

Abstract: This study aims to present the reference range of corpus callosum by ultrasound imaging in neonates and to develop a clinically feasible screening method for congenital abnormalities of corpus callosum. An observational study was conducted between January 2015 and July 2016; 2D and 3D ultrasound evaluations were conducted and virtural organ computer-aided analysis was applied in the volume calculation of corpus callosum. The following parameters were measured: thickness of the rostum, thickness of the genu, thi… Show more

“…The lateral ventricles were noted to be prominent and there was a cavum septum pellucidum et vergae. The corpus callosum was thicker than expected for patient age and gender (Gao et al, 2018). Nodules of gray matter heterotopia were seen in the cerebellum (Figure 1).…”

“…Also of note, unlike adults with CC injury and pediatric patients with developmental anomalies of the CC who commonly exhibit cognitive impairments, language delay, visuospatial integration issues, dyslexia, and behavioral issues, newborn infants with penetrating CC injury did not show impairments in the cognitive and motor domains. 7,22,31,32 We speculate that this may be reflective of the higher neuroplastic capacity of the developing human brain. It is also possible that cognitive impairments may first become apparent later in childhood when the cognitive demands increase at school age.…”

“…This study provides easily applicable and reproducible MR imaging biometry data of the CC in children, offering reference values and growth patterns for each parameter, thus contributing to practical clinical use. Gao Y., et.al;(2018) 15 : This study aims to establish a reference range for the corpus callosum using ultrasound imaging in neonates and to develop a clinically feasible screening method for congenital abnormalities of the corpus callosum. Methods: An observational study was conducted from January 2015 to July 2016, involving 2D and 3D ultrasound evaluations.…”

“…In this comprehensive review on MRI role in corpus callosum measurement have reviewed on many research articles and the outcome about corpus callosum measurement have to variation in length of corpus callosum at different age groups between both sexes. We compare the reviewed outcome with some different authors study Weis S. et.al; (1993), 7 Rajapkase J. et.al; (1996), 8 Dorion A. et.al; (2001), 9 Chiara N. et.al; (2004), 10 Van K. et.al; (2008), 11 Rizzo G. et.al; (2011), 12 Mohammad M. et.al; (2011), 13 Garel C. et.al; (2011), 14 Gao Y. et.al; (2018), 15 Kamal A. et.al; (2019), 16 Ping J. et.al; (2020), 17 Gnawali S. et.al; (2021), 18 Berman S. et.al; (2018), 19 Bayar O. et.al; (2021). 20 Their parameter was significant and population have variation in length of corpus callosum at different age group between both sexes.…”
