Biomedical Image Compression Techniques for Clinical Image Processing

Abstract: Image processing is widely used in the domain of biomedical engineering especially for compression of clinical images. Clinical diagnosis receives high importance which involves handling patient’s data more accurately and wisely when treating patients remotely. Many researchers proposed different methods for compression of medical images using Artificial Intelligence techniques. Developing efficient automated systems for compression of medical images in telemedicine is the focal point in this paper. Three majo… Show more

“…Additionally, the HELP system has been utilized in military settings in Iraq and Syria for teleconsultations [22], while other platforms facilitate collaborative image analysis [23]. In [24], neural networks, fuzzy logic, and neuro-fuzzy logic are used to analyze biomedical images in telemedicine, preserving a greater amount of information such as spectral representation and edges. In [25], a telemedicine system is proposed with an emphasis on the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT).…”

“…Such potential risks are built into the architecture of the system. These risks can be divided into several subcategories, including level of data gathering [8][9][10], level of transmission level [11][12][13][14], and level of storage [15,16], all of which are discussed in greater detail in Section 3. Some consumers are hesitant to use such technologies because of the concerns to the confidentiality and protection of EHR data.…”

“…In Peru, visual diseases are part of the cause of the second disability with the highest percentage of cases, according to data reported by the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and the WHO. As for the reasons for visual impairment increase, 76% result from lack of treatment or early detection of eye diseases that, in most cases, are treatable [4].…”
