Biomass Production of Indonesian Indigenous Leptolyngbya Strain on NPK Fertilizer Medium and its Potential as a Source of Biofuel

Abstract: Leptolyngbya is one of the genera of Cyanobacteria (prokaryotic microalgae) which are often found in the hot spring area. These microalgae are known to have potential as a biofuels source. In order to utilize microalgae, it is necessary to make efforts to produce microalgae biomass in large quantities. Biomass production depends on many environmental factors, one of which is the medium. The use of appropriate media and cheaply be one option, since biomass must be produced in large scale. Therefore, research on… Show more

“…The NPK medium was used as microalgal growth media in this study. That medium was chosen because it contains essential macronutrients, such as Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K), which are needed by microalgae, including Scenedesmus, to grow optimally (Prihantini et al, 2020). The NPK medium was made by dissolving 120 mg NPK inorganic fertilizer (Grow More, 2013) to 1,000 mL of distilled water, so that the final concentration would be 120 ppm.…”

“…[68][69][70] . The method that produces the biofuels effectively is laptolyngbya 71,72) . The objective is to produce a long-lasting, water-resistant energy carrier that can be employed in the existing storage and conveying amenities designed for hard coal, making them a superior replacement for coal in current heat and power plants 73) .…”

“…TiO2 has the advantage of low cost and good performance in ultraviolet light, although its performance is quite poor in visible and infrared light 13) . ZnO has the advantage of higher electron mobility and is easy to modify on its morphological structure, although ZnO has a low level of chemical stability and a higher band gap than TiO2 [14][15][16] . The double-layer method is used to form a dye loading layer using TiO2 and a light scattering layer using ZnO, with the purpose of strengthening the bonds between semiconductor and substrate, expanding the light absorption range by using dye as a sensitizer, expanding the area of dye absorption, and increasing capture of photons 17,18) .…”
