After the widespread phenomenon of smoking in all societies, cultures and age groups, smoking hookah, a social phenomenon common among different members of society, has recently spread. The purpose of this study was to find out how smoking affects blood proteins. Place of collection of Diyala University sample the level of full blood protein was determined by the serums of 20 smokers and all age groups and compared to the serum of 20-25 from male nonsmokers and according to the results of the tests conducted showed a clear rise and "means" in the level of blood protein in people who smoke at a rate (1.500+ 6.180) compared to nonsmokers who had a protein level (1.00+4.160) at (0.01) >P level of albumin as measured and recorded. Smokers had (1,400+ 3.50) fewer album levels than non-smokers compared to (3,400 + 0.600) for non-smokers, which may be due to the role of albumin as an extracellular antioxidant. The results also revealed that smokers have a higher level of Globulins (1.408+3.53) than non-smokers (1.345 = 1.700), indicating that the high total protein in smokers is due to the high rate of Globulins , which shows that smoking has a negative effect on blood proteins, causing imbalances in body function and eventually leading to chronic diseases and death if smoking continues for a long time.

Atherosclerosis constitutes one of the most frequent diseases and one of the important predisposing factors for atherosclerosis is lipid profile change. Androgen changes lipid profile, mainly high density lipoprotein (HDL), and oral finasteride are used for treating androgenetic hair loss as a risk factor for atherosclerosis. This study was conducted in order to determine the lipid profile changes by 1 mg finasteride tablets daily in patients with androgenetic hair loss. Twenty-five patients with androgenetic hair loss were prescribed one 1 mg finasteride tablet daily. Fasting plasma levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL), HDL, triglyceride, total cholesterol and HDL to LDL ratio of patients before therapy and after 3 and 6 months of therapy were measured. The study was conducted in the form of a beforeafter clinical trial. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 16. A statistically significant rise in triglyceride plasma level (p=0.014) and significant decreases in HDL plasma level (p<0.001) was observed after 3 and 6 months of therapy, respectively. Plasma levels of LDL, total cholesterol and HDL to LDL ratio were not changed significantly but changes in ratio between third and sixth month were significant. Therefore finasteride may decrease dihydrotestosterone and increase testosterone that could lead to complications of the lipid profile by reducing HDL and increasing total cholesterol.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of cigarette smoking and pack-year of cigarette smoking on red blood cell counts and its related parameters, also glucose concentration. Methods: Sixty consenting subjects of which 30 controls (non-smokers) and 30 cases (smokers) were studied. Smokers were divided into two groups based on pack-year of cigarettes smoked. The red blood cell parameters and glucose level were analyzed in smoker and non-smoker. Independent T-test was used to comparison of a smoker and also one way ANOVA was used to comparison packyear of smoking groups.Results: The present study showed no changes significantly in red blood cell parameter and glucose level between in smoker. The current result appeared alteration of red blood cells counts (RBC), hemoglobin level (HGB), hematocrit percent (HCT) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration level (MCHC), while no difference of mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), red cell distribution width (RDW) and glucose level in duration of smoking. Conclusions: This study revealed that cigarette smoking statistically no effect on RBC counts and its related parameters and glucose level among healthy. However, the duration of smoking statistically had the effect on RBC, HGB, HCT and MCHC while had no effect on MCV, MCH, RDW and glucose level.
