“…In this study, we provide the first record for the occurrence of this species in Canada. While it is possible that this species is adventive, having been imported along with weevil-infested peppers from Mexico or Florida (Aguilar and Servín 2000;Rodríguez-Leyva et al 2000), it may also have come into Canada from more proximal sources. For instance, J. hunteri has been previously recorded in Washtenaw County, Michigan, United States of America (Gibson 2013), which is~120 km away from the site at which the species was recorded in Canada.…”

“…The experiment was carried out with females from two origins: wild (from the field and emerged from the natural host A. eugenii); and from the laboratory, raised during 13 successive generations in the factitious host C. maculatus. Females were individually placed on an observation arena, which consisted of a Petri dish (10 x 10 x 2.5 cm) with four artificial oviposition devices (Parafilm bubbles), similar to those describe by Rodríguez- Leyva, E., et al (2000). Two of the four devices had two larvae at 3rd instar of A. eugenii (natural host), these were selected based on the characteristics described by Torres-Ruíz & Rodríguez- Leyva (2012); on the other two remaining devices, two larvae of the fictitious host susceptible to parasitism (4th instar of C. maculatus) were placed.…”
