“…Isolation and characterization of pharmacologically active compounds from medicinal plants is continuing even today. All the plants have mutualistic internal endophytic fungi [22][23] . "Endophytes are fungi or bacteria occurring inside plant tissues without causing any apparent symptoms in the host".…”

“…Endolichenic fungi, an emerging group of endosymbiotic microorganisms, consist of fungal strains that live within asymptomatic lichen thalli, much in the same way as endophytic fungi live within healthy plant tissues (1). In contrast to endophytic fungi that have been studied chemically a number of times (2)(3)(4), only a limited number of endolichenic fungi have thus far been investigated for their secondary metabolites (5,6), but studies have shown that endolichenic fungi are also rich sources of structurally diverse and biologically active small-molecule metabolites. In the course of the current authors' ongoing efforts to discover bioactive compounds from endophytic and endolichenic microorganisms, four new anthraquinone derivatives (1-4) ( Figure 1) were obtained, along with six known anthraquinones (5-10) and three xanthones (11)(12)(13) (Supplemental data, http://www.…”

“…IR data were recorded using a Shimadzu FTIR-8400S spectrophotometer. 1 Cytochalasans from endophytic fungus Trichoderma gamsii G Ding et al C-19-C-20, C-11-C-5-C-4-C-3-C-10-C-22/C-23, and C-7-C-8-C-13 fragments (Figure 2), and the remaining connection was completely established by Heteronuclear multiple-bond correlations (Figure 2). The correlations from H-3 to C-1, H-4 to C-1 and C-9, and 2-NH-to C-1, C-3, C-4 and C-9 established a pyrrolidin-2-one ring system with one isobutyl connected at C-3.…”

“…1 Thus, endophytes are considered an outstanding source of bioactive natural products, and many different secondary metabolites with diverse structural features have been isolated from endophytes. [1][2][3][4][5][6] During an ongoing search for new bioactive secondary metabolites from endophytic fungi, the extract of one endophytic fungus Trichoderma gamsii inhabiting the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Panax notoginseng (BurK.) F.H.Chen displayed cytotoxic activity against HeLa cells.…”
