Biological studies and phenology of the slugDeroceras reticulatum(Müller, 1774) (Pulmonata: Stylommatophora)

Abstract: In the southeast of Buenos Aires Province (Argentina), slugs cause reductions in crop yield by killing seeds and seedlings, by destroying stems and growing points, and by reducing leaf area. Deroceras reticulatum (Müller, 1774) was introduced into Argentina a long time ago, but the biology and ecology of this species in this country are still unknown. The aim of this study was to determine how temperature affects growth rate, reproduction and survival of D. reticulatum and also to assess the seasonal phenology… Show more

“…The adoption of NT system in southeastern Buenos Aires Province increased some groups of organisms like slugs and pill bugs in some fields, which became pests in crops (Faberi et al, 2006;Clemente et al, 2008;Salvio et al, 2008;Faberi et al, 2009). In recent works Diovisalvi et al (2008) and Domínguez et al (2009) determined that there are slightly changes in some properties of the soil related to the soils sustainability between CT and NT.…”

“…Despite of the existence of several anomalies all over the globe, in South America, more precisely in Argentina, references about the presence of malformations in terrestrial molluscs are scarce, associating them to studies on molluscicides (Clemente et al, 2008), in which under laboratory conditions the lethality and the impossibility of reproducing are proved as consequences of these agents.…”
