Biological Responses of Agricultural Soils to Fly-Ash Amendment

Abstract: The volume of solid waste produced in the world is increasing annually, and disposing of such wastes is a growing problem. Fly ash (FA) is a form of solid waste that is derived from the combustion of coal. Research has shown that fly ash may be disposed of by using it to amend agricultural soils. This review addresses the feasibility of amending agricultural field soils with fly ash for the purpose of improvings oil health and enhancing the production of agricultural crops. The current annual production of maj… Show more

“…Apart from the recycling of beneficial plant nutrients, soil application of biosolids may do away with the requirement for commercial fertilization of cropland [1][2][3] and can be used as a substitute for chemical fertilizers [4]. Biosolids are an important type of organic waste among the various categories of solid waste [5]. Biosolids, also referred to as sewage sludge (SS) or domestic wastewater residuals, are insoluble biological solid residues or organic waste resulting from different sewage treatment processes [6,7] in wastewater treatment plants worldwide [8].…”

“…The energy predicament and dilapidation of environment are presently two vital issues for worldwide sustainable development [1]. The foremost source of potential energy is fossil fuels that are dominantly consumed by the most of developed and developing economies around the world [2,3]. Dependence on traditional fuels has contributed to change in climate resulting in global warming [4,5].…”

“…Sewage sludge is an important type of organic wastes among the various categories of solid waste (Singh et al, 2014). In the present day, because of population growth, world of diminishing natural resources and energy crisis, the importance and need of developing a sustainable approach towards environmentally sound solid waste management cannot be ignored (Pappu et al, 2007).…”
