Biological properties of the novel fungicide cyazofamid against Phytophthora infestans on tomato and Pseudoperonospora cubensis on cucumber

Abstract: Cyazofamid (ISO proposed common name), 4-chloro-2-cyano-N,N-dimethyl-5-p-tolylimidazole-1-sulfonamide is a novel fungicide exhibiting specific activity against diseases caused by Oomycetes. In tests, cyazofamid at 0.4-1.6 mg litre-1 exhibited excellent preventative activity against Phytophthora infestans on tomato and Pseudoperonospora cubensis on cucumber. Minimum inhibitory concentrations of cyazofamid against both diseases were over 63 times lower than those of mancozeb and at least 16 times lower than thos… Show more

“…The activity was equal to that in plots sprayed with cyazofamid alone (67 and 100 mg a.i./ml, 10-day application intervals, 6 sprays). Since cyazofamid possesses strong activity to inhibit the formation of zoosporangia, 5) it may contribute to a decrease in the density of zoosporangia in the field.…”

“…The curative pre-mixture cymoxanilϩchlorothalonil (300ϩ750 mg a.i./ml) had a similar effect on the development of the disease as cyazofamid. Although cyazofamid had a limited curative effect on P. infestans in pot tests, 5) it was able to suppress the diseases development after the pathogen had infected the plants in the field (Fig. 1).…”

“…Phenylamide-resistant field isolates of P. infestans were sensitive to mancozeb, chlorothalonil and cymoxanil (Sedegui et al, 1999). Metalaxyl-resistant mutants of Pseudoperonospora cubensis and P. infestans did not exhibit crossresistance to CZF (Mitani et al, 2001a). In addition, metalaxyl-resistant mutants of P. infestans were sensitive to IPV (Suty and Stenzel, 1999).…”
