Biological, Chemical, and Omics Research of Taxus Medicinal Resources

Abstract: Preclinical Research Taxus is a botanical source for the anticancer drug taxol (paclitaxel), first reported in 1971 as a result of bioassay guided fractionation of active extracts from stem bark samples of T. brevifolia. This led to additional discoveries of pharmacologically active taxoids in other Taxus species and to investigations on their biosynthetic precursors, analogues, and derivatives. In continuation with our studies on Taxus biochemistry, we review the genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metab… Show more

“…Besides paclitaxel (PACL), 10-deacetylbaccatin III (10-DAB), the precursor of PACL, is also of high importance [6,7]. It has also been used extensively for the semi-synthesis of Taxotere, which shows a more efficient anti-tumor activity than taxol, as well as the analogue of PACL, cephalomannine Data 2020, 5, 22 2 of 6 (CEPH) [6,8]. Other taxanes that are collected from the Taxus species are baccatin III (BAC), brevifoliol and 9-dihydro-13-acetylbaccatin III (9-DAB III) [9].…”

“…The biological and chemical studies of Papaver (Desgagné-Penix et al, 2010), Taxus (Hao et al, 2011) and Polygonum (Hao et al, 2012a) with the use of omics technologies provide a paradigm of the active integration of various state-ofthe-art methodologies into the early stage of drug research and development. Increasing interest in Chelidonieae pharmaceutical resources has led to additional discoveries of alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, and many other compounds in various Chelidonieae species and to studies on their chemotaxonomy, molecular phylogeny, and pharmacology.…”
