“…Direct sequencing of the p20, p23 and p25 genes from the CTV isolates and their SAT derived sub-isolates used in this study showed a high inter-and intra-group genetic diversity, in some cases closer to the comparisons among reference sequences of the seven CTV strains. Phylogenetic analyses showed the presence of the extant strains VT, T3, NC, and RB in the majority of the genotype composition of the isolates and derived sub-isolates, as previously described (Benítez-Galeano et al 2015;Rubio et al 2019).…”

“…CTV isolates in field trees are often composed of variable populations of multiple strains that may enhance changes in the population genetic diversity, leading to the generation of new viral variants due to recombination events, or complementation among different strains (Brlansky et al 2003;Folimonova 2013;Harper et al 2015b). In Uruguay, CTV severe SP isolates are widespread (Benítez-Galeano et al 2015;Rubio et al 2019) and a high genetic diversity in field populations has been reported (Benítez-Galeano et al 2015). The study of CTV strain circulation could provide important information to understand disease development and implement management strategies in the country.…”
