Biological activity of Bacillus thuringiensis strains against larvae of the Blowfly Chrysomya putoria (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Calliphoridae)

Abstract: Neotropical Entomology 35(6): 849-852 (2006) ABSTRACT -Different strains of Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner were proved to be a powerful biologic insecticide against larvae of several insect orders. Due to the epidemiological importance of blowfl ies of the Chrysomya Robineau-Desvoidy genus in the production of secondary cutaneous myiasis and mechanic transmission of pathogenic agents, the performance of two strains of B. thuringiensis (LFB-FIOCRUZ 907 and LFB-FIOCRUZ 856) was tested against larvae of Chry… Show more

“…If these crystals are ingested by susceptible insects, they cause serious injuries or death (11). Several researchers have studied the effect of these toxins on the reproduction and growth of the house fly (5,6,11). In this study, we studied the effect of a protein crystal toxin derived from B. thuringiensis serotype H14 (subspecies israelensis) on the larvae of house flies.…”
