Biologia reprodutiva de jumentos. I. Biometria testicular e comportamento sexual durante a colheita de sêmen

Abstract

Foram avaliadas as medidas tesliculares e o comportamcnto sexual durante a colheita dc sêmen de seis (6) jumentos da raça Pega, com idades variando enire 3 e 9 anos. Os valores médios obtidos para o comprimento, largura e altura testiculares foram, respectivamente, 10,12 x 7,38 x 7,68 cm para o testículo esquerdo e 10,35 x 6,73 x 7,12 cm para o direito. Não foi encontrada diferença significante (a = 0,05) entre os volumes do testículo esquerdo e direito de um mesmo reprodutor, cujos valores médios foram 201,36 cm3 e 182,34 cm3, respectivamente. Num total de 68 colheitas, o tempo de reação médio (medido desde que o animal era colocado cm presença da fêmea até a ejaculação) foi de 10,98 minutos, variando de dois a 45 min. (coeficiente de variação = 59%). Durante o período de excitação observaram-se reações, consideradas por vários autores como características da espécie, tais como salto sem ereção ou com ereção apenas parcial do pênis, “flehmen” e movimentos mastigatórios.

Strategies for the management of donkey jacks in intensive breeding systems

Absence of this element of jenny sexual behaviour is likely responsible in large part for the poor response for inhand breeding or semen collection of jacks with jennies or mares (Morais et al 1993;Lodi et al 1995;McDonnell 1998;Canisso et al 2010).…”

“…This presents particular challenges as mares only show mild signs of oestrus in the presence of a jack, especially if not experienced with jacks (Canisso 2008). This muted oestrus reaction probably contributes to the especially long reaction latency of jacks when presented with an oestrous mare for inhand covering or semen collection compared with jennies (Morais et al 1993;Lodi et al 1995;Canisso et al 2010). Therefore the choice of mare is important and additional strategies are often required.…”
