Bioinspired total synthesis and biological activity of Pegaharine A

Qichang Liu,
Mei Zuo,
Yi Song
et al.

Abstract: BACKGROUNDPhytopathogens cause various diseases by parasitizing crops, reducing crop yield and resulting in substantial economic losses in agricultural production. A novel type isolated from the perennial herbaceous Peganum harmala L. seeds, β‐carboline alkaloids pegaharine A (PA), has become a hot topic in developing plant‐originated green pesticides owing to their significant physiological activities.RESULTSA scalable bioinspired total synthesis of PA is accomplished in the present work. The systematical bio… Show more

“…Natural products have taken an indispensable role in the identification of new chemical entities in the evolution of agrochemistry. , With prominent antifungal activities, natural products and their derivatives serve as an essential source to stimulate the inspiration for the design of antifungal leads. Along with the significance in medicinal chemistry, natural carboline alkaloids have widespread biological activities and play an important role in the development of pesticide leads. Among them, our continuing efforts have been attached to the underdeveloped 1-carbonyl β-carboline alkaloids. Our previous efforts on this topic validated 1-carbamoyl β-carbolines as new antifungal candidates and could mediate histone acetylation (e.g., the EC 50 value of compound a against Gaeumanomyce graminsis is 0.45 μM).…”
